An Open Invitation to Learn Something Important
I am sponsoring a public information event during the legislative session that I call "SiCKO Day at the Legislature" and respectfully request that you attend. I have invited many other people influential in making and implementing health policy, including all members of the Legislature.
The event is 8 AM to 5 PM in the Capitol Board Room, Room 210, on Tuesday January 29. Drop in for a minute, have a bite, talk to Donna Smith, laugh at Michael Moore, learn something new. There will be buffet food all day catered by the Capitol caterers.
There will be a continuous multimedia show presenting the idea of single-payer healthcare financing, also known as "Medicare For All."
I call it SiCKO Day because, in addition to the informational multimedia show there will be a simultaneous and continuous showing of Michael Moore's movie, "SiCKO." One of he people featured in the movie, Donna Smith, will be there to answer questions about the movie and about Medicare For all.
Am I being deliberately provocative in showing this movie at the Capitol during a legislative session? Certainly. Am I taking a calculated-in-your-face approach to promoting Medicare For All? Absolutely.
I believe that you will agree, when you have attended this event and considered the information presented, that Medicare For All is a responsible and practical solution to the financial crisis in healthcare.
I think you will agree that Medicare For All is not a foreign concept, but is uniquely American.
I think you will learn that the scare tactic of labeling any sing-payer plan "socialized medicine" is like an air guitar- looks pretty, says nothing.
I think you will agree (perhaps you already do) that it is past time for you and I to sound off and demand meaningful changes in the way we pay for healthcare.
I look forward to sweeing you on January 29, if only for a short time.
